Michael Labranche Named To Securities Industry Association Board

Date 14/07/2004

Michael LaBranche, chairman, CEO, and president of LaBranche & Co. Inc., was appointed to the board of directors of the Securities Industry Association during its meeting today. LaBranche replaces Myles Gillespie of Fleet Specialist, who resigned.

“Mike’s experience both working as a specialist and managing LaBranche will be an asset to our industry,“ said Richard E. Thornburgh, SIA chairman and vice chairman of the executive board of Credit Suisse First Boston. "He also understands market structure changes, which are especially relevant as the industry continues its efforts to ensure that investors' interests come first and foremost."

LaBranche has served as chairman, CEO, and president since LaBranche and Co. Inc. became a public corporation in August 1999. He has served as a governor of the New York Stock Exchange and is a member of the NYSE’s Market Performance Committee. He is currently on the boards of the Securities Industry Automation Corporation and Lava Trading. His term will be completed in November 2004, when he will be eligible for nomination to a full three-year term.

Board members work together to formulate policies and complete initiatives that have short- and long-term implications for securities firms, investors, and the financial marketplace.
