MIAX Exchange Group - Options Markets - Qualified Securities For Q4 2026

As previously announced in the January 20, 2026 Alert and August 17, 2026 Alert, the MIAX Options Exchanges filed with the SEC to amend the Short Term Option Series Program of each exchange. The Short Term Option Series Program was amended to include, in addition to the up to two Monday and Wednesday expirations for options on certain individual stocks: (1) adding up to two Tuesday and Thursday expirations for options on Exchange-Traded Fund ("ETF") Shares that meet a higher threshold of criteria "Qualifying Securities" criteria, and (2) adding up to two Monday and Wednesday expirations for options on ETF Shares that meet a lower-threshold set of criteria.
 
A Qualifying Security is

(1) an underlying security, as measured on the last day of the prior calendar quarter, must have: (A)  a market capitalization of greater than 700 billion dollars for an individual stock based on the closing price, or (B) (i) Assets under Management (“AUM”) greater than 50 billion dollars for an Exchange-Traded Fund Share based on net asset value (“NAV”); or (ii) AUM greater than 25 billion dollars for an Exchange-Traded Fund Share based on NAV;
 
(2) monthly options volume, as measured by sides traded in the last month preceding the quarter end, of greater than 10 million options; or monthly options volume, as measured by sides traded in the last month preceding the quarter end, of greater than 5 million options for an Exchange-Traded Fund Share that qualified for (B)(ii) above;
 
(3) a position limit of at least 250,000 contracts; and
 
(4) participate in the Penny Interval Program.


ETFs meeting the criteria of an AUM greater than $50 billion, monthly options volume greater than 10 million contracts, a position limit of at least 250,000 contracts, and participation in the Penny Interval Program, are "Tier 1 Qualifying Securities" and are eligible for up to two Monday/Tuesday/ Wednesday/ Thursday expirations.  
 
ETFs meeting the criteria of an AUM greater than $25 billion, monthly options volume greater than 5 million contracts, a position limit of at least 250,000 contracts, and participation in the Penny Interval Program, are
"Tier 2 Qualifying Securities" and are eligible for up to two Monday and Wednesday expirations.
 
The new series will follow the existing Short Term Option Series Program process of same strike-price intervals, P.M.-settled, and skips any week where the expiration would coincide with a standard, monthly, or quarterly expiration. A Qualifying Security expiration would not be listed on a day when there will be an earnings announcement that takes place after market close.

ETF Tier 1 Qualifying Securities:

  • Financial Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLF)
  • iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT) 
  • SPDR Gold Trust (GLD)

ETF Tier 2 Qualifying Securities:

  • iShares 7-10 Year Treasury Bond ETF (IEF) 
  • iShares iBoxx $ Invst Grade Corporate Bond ETF (LQD)
  • iShares Silver Trust (SLV) 
  • iShares 20+ Year Treasury Bond ETF (TLT)

Each calendar quarter, the above criteria will be reassessed to determine eligibility for the following quarter as a Qualifying Security. The MIAX Option Exchanges will post the list of Qualifying Securities on our website by the close of business on the first trading day of each quarter.
