MEFF Posts Record Trading Volumes, Posting 6.4 Million Contracts - It Represents A 60% Increase On June 2004

Equities

In June trading in equities on the Spanish market through SIBE amounted to € 75.54 bn, which represents a year on year increase of 33.2% The accumulated value of trading volume from the beginning of the year was € 424.99 bn, 25.1% up on the same period last year.

The number of bargains this month was 1.4 million, which represents a 37% increase on the same month last year.

The return on the IBEX 35® index was 3.78% in June, bringing the accumulated return on the index from January to 7.74%. The return on the IBEX 35® with dividends in the same period was 9.55%. The return on the new IBEX MEDIUM CAP® and IBEX SMALL CAP® indices in the first half was 30% and 24% respectively.

Trading on the Latibex market in June came in at € 39.4 million, which represents a 29.6% increase on June last year. The number of transactions since the beginning of the year has increased 49%.The FTSE Latibex Top posted a return of 5.64%, and the accumulated return on the index over the year was 26.5%

Warrants and Certificates

Trading volumes on the warrants and certificates market in June was € 197.4 million, 77.2% up on the same month last year.

Futures and options

Trading volume in MEFF options and futures in June was 6.4 million contracts, 60% up on the same month last year, which represents a record high in trading in a single month, exceeding the record posted in March 2001.

Trading volume was particularly heavy in IBEX 35 Futures, with 405,995 contracts traded, 17% up on the year. Trading in Futures on single stocks, reached 4.6 million contracts, posting a 77% year on year increase and setting a new record high. Trading in Options on the IBEX 35 was 416,735 contracts and Equity Options trading came in at 868,570 contracts, posting annual increases of 78% and 24% respectively.

The volume of contracts traded on MEFF in the first half of the year was 19,6 million, which represents a 39% increase on the same period last year.

Corporate Debt

Corporate Debt trading on AIAF in June reached € 71.90 bn, a 57.4 % increase compared to the same period last year. The accumulated value posted from the beginning of the year was € 414.07 bn, 67.8% up on the year.

New issues in June came in at € 38.57 bn, 54.3% up on the same month in 2004. This brings the figure for the first six months of the year to € 205.91 bn, 35% up on the last year.

The outstanding balance at the end of June was € 376.552 bn, 55% up on the same period in 2004. Net financing for the first six months of the year came at € 68.52 bn, 51.7% up on 2004.

SENAF

In June trading volume on the public debt trading platform SENAF was € 24.85 bn, 86.3% up on the previous month. Trading in SENAF during the first half of the year was € 135.21 bn.
