Total turnover (single sided) of all MCX contracts for the week July 20-26, 2007 (Friday-Thursday) was Rs 58,924.76 crore, up 37.4% from the previous close.
MCX COMDEX at 2160.01 points was down 1.64% from the previous close. MCX Agri Index closed up 1.4% at 1758.44 points, MCX Energy Index at 2257.11 points was down 1.99% and MCX Metal Index at 2479.71 points was down 2.35%.
In the Bullion segment, MCX Gold contracts registered a turnover of Rs 13,893.42 crore. Open interest of all gold contracts was 13,338 kgs and total volume recorded was 156,778 kgs. The August gold contract was down 1.84% from the previous week close at Rs 8690/10 gms.
Silver contracts clocked turnover of Rs 9,725.77 crore. Open interest for all silver contracts was 496,190 kgs and total volume was 5,432,755 kgs. Silver for September delivery was down 3.1% at Rs 17,482 per kg.
In the Metal segment, MCX Copper contracts across the board registered a turnover of Rs 10,451.41 crore. Open interest was 14,568 tonnes and total volume 324,251 tonnes. Copper for August delivery was down 3.15% at Rs 313.55 per kg.
MCX Zinc contracts recorded a turnover of Rs 6,884.73 crore. Open interest was 32,920 tonnes and total volume 462,155 tonnes. The July contract was down 1.55% at Rs 142.70 per kg while the August contract was down 1.06% at Rs 144.25 per kg.
Nickel contracts turnover was Rs 3,258.54 crore, open interest 1,880.75 tonnes and volume of 24,271.75 tonnes. The July contract fell 8.94% to Rs 1259.5 per kg while the August contract was down 8.5% at Rs 1278.10 per kg.
Lead contracts clocked turnover of Rs 3,029.83 crore, OI of 3,865 tonnes and volume of 224,340 tonnes. Lead for July delivery lost 8.14% over the week to close at Rs 125.30 a kg while the August contract was down 6.43% at Rs 125.95 per kg.
In the Energy segment, all MCX crude oil contracts registered a turnover of Rs 9,060.91 crore. Open interest was 1,899,100 barrels and total volume 30,031,800 barrels. The August contract was down 0.07% at Rs 3,035 per barrel.
Natural gas contracts recorded a turnover of Rs 458.07 crore, open interest of 2,966,500 mmbtu and total volume of 18,031,500 mmbtu. The August contract was down 10.25% at Rs 245.20 per mmBTU.
Some of the other major agri-commodities traded on MCX registered the following turnover:- All Mentha Oil contracts registered a turnover of Rs. 190.93 crore, open interest of 984 tonnes and total volume of 3,764 tonnes. Mentha oil for July delivery was up 3.48% at Rs 505.5 per kg while the August contract was up 3.89% at Rs 513 per kg.
- All MCX Refined Soy Oil contracts, with open interest of 47,800 tonnes, registered a turnover of Rs 1248.98 crore and total volume of 247,130 tonnes. The August contract was down 0.32% at Rs 507.5 per 10 kg.
- MCX Potato (Agra) contracts registered a turnover of Rs. 179.82 crore, open interest of 52,140 tonnes and total volume of 286,200 tonnes. The August contract was up 1.26% at Rs 636.10 per quintal (100 kg) while the September contract rose 1.18% at Rs 645.7 per quintal.
- The Potato (Tarkeshwar) contract recorded turnover of Rs 28.37 crore, OI of 21,000 tonnes and volume of 42,120 tonnes. The August delivery contract closed up 0.24% at Rs 671.10 per quintal while the September contract rose 0.51% at Rs 684.6 per quintal.
- Cardamom contracts registered turnover of Rs 121.48 crore, OI of 443 tonnes and volume of 2196 tonnes. The August contract was down 3.44% at Rs 544.80 per kg while the September contract lost 4.59% to close at Rs 561.5/kg.
- MCX Chana contracts recorded a turnover of Rs 98.02 crore, OI of 3,660 tonnes and volume of 41,410 tonnes. The August contract was down 2.19% at Rs 2,322 per quintal.
- MCX Turmeric contracts clocked a turnover of Rs 56.36 crore, OI of 1500 tonnes and volume of 24,820 tonnes. The August contract gained 3.12% to close at Rs 2,282 per quintal.
- MCX SugarS contracts recorded turnover of Rs 28.7 crore, OI of 1290 tonnes and volume of 22,250 tonnes. The August contract lost 1.93% to close at Rs 1272 per quintal.
