MCX Weekly Market Report - MCX Gold Contracts Clock A Turnover Of Rs12,067.67 Crore, Copper Contracts Turnover At Rs13105.09 Crore

Total turnover (single sided) of all MCX contracts for the week April 20-26, 2007 (Friday-Thursday) 2007 fell to Rs49703.80 crore from the last week’s turnover.

MCX COMDEX at 2194.7 points was down 1.64 % from the previous week’s close at 2231.27 points. MCX Agri Index closed at 1719.93 points, down2.53%, MCX Energy Index at 2,200.05 points, up1.51% and MCX Metal Index at 2646.21 points, down 3.84%.

In the Bullion segment, all MCX Gold contracts registered a turnover of Rs 12067.67 crore up 0.37% over the previous week’s turnover, while all MCX Silver contracts recorded a turnover of Rs 11267.54 crore, up 2.08%. Open interest for all gold contracts was 12455.5 kgs and total volume recorded was 129227.7 kgs. Open interest for all silver contracts was 517145 kgs and total volume was 5889920 kgs.

In the Metal segment, MCX Copper contracts across the board registered a turnover of Rs 13105.09 crore down 7.7% over that in the previous week. Open interest was 13360 tonnes and total volume of 398155 tonnes.

MCX Zinc contracts recorded a turnover of Rs 5024.50 crore, down 17.6%, open interest of 21,155 tonnes and total volume of 324510 tonnes.

In the Energy segment, all MCX crude oil contracts registered a turnover of Rs 4770.19crore, open interest of 1113500 barrels and total volume of 17605100 barrels while natural gas contracts recorded a turnover of Rs272.11 crore, down 5.8%, open interest of 1349000 mmbtu and total volume of 8508000 mmbtu.

Some of the other major agri-commodities traded on MCX registered the following turnover:

• All Mentha Oil contracts registered a turnover of Rs. 252.94, open interest of 1932.48 tonnes and total volume of 4402.08 tonnes.
• All MCX Refined Soy Oil contracts, with open interest of 46800 tonnes, registered a turnover of Rs. 928 crore and total volume of 191390 tonnes.
• All MCX Potato (Agra) contract registered a turnover of Rs. 131.7 crore, open interest of 82500 tonnes and total volume of 219300 tonnes.
