Total turnover (single sided) of all MCX contracts for the week May 25-31, 2007 (Friday-Thursday) 2007 was Rs 40,343.92 crore, down 19% from the previous week’s close.
MCX COMDEX at 2136.34 points was up 1.62% from the previous close. MCX Agri Index closed up 0.89% at 1682.97 points, MCX Energy Index at 2138.37 points was up 0.55% and MCX Metal Index at 2574.64 points was up 2.78%.
In the Bullion segment, MCX Gold contracts registered a turnover of Rs 10,693.69 crore, down 9.7% from the previous closing. The gold June contract closed at Rs 8694 per 10 gms, up 0.6% from the previous closing. Open interest for all gold contracts was 13,332.5 kg and total volume recorded was 122,606.1 kgs.
Silver contracts clocked turnover of Rs 5770.82 crore, down 26.6%. Silver July closed at Rs 18,300 per kg, up 2.74%. Open interest for all silver contracts was 532,070 kgs and total volume was 3,196,900 kgs.
In the Metal segment, MCX Copper contracts across the board registered a turnover of Rs 9,687.54 crore. Copper for June delivery was up 5.62% at Rs 305.3 per kg. Open interest was 12,807 tonnes and total volume 325,256 tonnes.
MCX Zinc contracts recorded a turnover of Rs 5,087.61 crore. The May contract was up 2.58% at Rs 151.25 per kg. Open interest was 24,630 tonnes and total volume 342,905 tonnes.
In the Energy segment, all MCX crude oil contracts registered a turnover of Rs 4,785.42 crore. The June contract was down 1.41% at Rs 2582 per barrel. Open interest was 1,157,600 barrels and total volume of 18,381,100 barrels.
Natural gas contracts recorded a turnover of Rs 257.17 crore, open interest of 1,280,000 mmbtu and total volume of 7,943,000 mmbtu. The June contract was up 0.19% at Rs 320.6 per mmBTU.
Some of the other major agri-commodities traded on MCX registered the following turnover -
- All Mentha Oil contracts registered a turnover of Rs. 275.54 crore, open interest of 1,146.6 tonnes and total volume of 5,290.2 tonnes. Mentha oil for May delivery was down 4.8% at Rs 499.8 per kg.
- All MCX Refined Soy Oil contracts, with open interest of 43,820 tonnes, registered a turnover of Rs 1,179.84 crore and total volume of 243,960 tonnes. The July contract was up 2.58% at Rs 492.85 per 10 kg.
- MCX Potato (Agra) contracts registered a turnover of Rs. 83.68 crore, open interest of 66,660 tonnes and total volume of 139,050 tonnes. The June contract was up 0.52% at Rs 594.2 per quintal (100 kg).
- MCX chana contracts recorded a turnover of Rs 110.51 crore, OI of 3790 tonnes and volume of 50,550 tonnes.The June contract was up 2.15% at Rs 2185 per quintal.
