Total turnover (single- sided) of all MCX contracts for the week 11-17 January 08 (Friday-Thursday) was Rs 85,903.23crore.
MCX COMDEX at 2400.04 points was down by 1.88% on the previous close. But MCX Agri- Index was up by 2.29% at 1734.30 points. MCX Energy Index at 2674.35 fell by 3.51% and MCX Metal Index at 2698.59 points fell by 1.52%.
In the bullion segment, MCX gold contracts notched up a turnover of Rs 41,027.81 crore. Open interest of all gold contracts was 15,687 kgs and total volume 362,739 kgs. The February gold contract was down 0.72% at Rs 11,162 per 10 gms on the previous week’s close.
Silver contracts clocked a turnover of Rs 17,795.19 crore. Open interest for all silver contracts was 3, 51,135 kgs and total volume 85, 21,400 kgs. Silver for March delivery moved down by 0.92% at Rs 20,636 per kg.
In the metal segment, MCX copper contracts across the board registered a turnover of Rs 8025.18 crore. Open interest was 18,887 tonnes and total volume 282,483 tonnes. Copper for February delivery moved down by 2.59 % at Rs 278 per kg.
MCX zinc contracts recorded a turnover of Rs 3151.21 crore. Open interest was 64,650 tonnes and total volume 339,775 tonnes. The January 08 contract fell by 6.23% at Rs 90.30 per kg.
Nickel contracts turnover was Rs 1149.89 crore, open interest 1,380 tonnes and volume 10,281 tonnes. The January 08 contract fell by 3.20 % at Rs 1,090 per kg.
Lead contracts clocked a turnover of Rs 1,379.33 crore, OI of 10,110 tonnes and volume of 133,095 tonnes. Lead for January 08 delivery was down 2.05 % at Rs 100.20 per kg.
In the energy segment, all MCX crude oil contracts registered a turnover of Rs 10,568.57 crore. Open interest was 12, 73,200 barrels and total volume 29,207,300 barrels. The Febuary 08 contract closed down 4.10 % at Rs 3,529 per barrel.
Natural gas contracts clocked a turnover of Rs 246.95 crore, open interest of 471,500 mmBTU and total volume of 76,69,000 mmBTU. The January 08 contract eased by 1.18 % at Rs 319.40 per mmBTU.
Some of the other major agro-commodities traded on MCX registered the following turnover:- All mentha oil contracts clocked a turnover of Rs 75.20 crore, open interest of 832 tonnes and total volume of 1,727 tonnes. Mentha oil for January 08 delivery gained by 0.51% at Rs 433.50 per kg.
- All MCX refined soya oil contracts aggregated a turnover of Rs 1339.32 crore, with open interest of 38,080 tonnes and total volume of 227,000 tonnes. The February 08 contract was up 3.74% at Rs 595.30 per 10 kgs.
- MCX potato (Agra) contracts registered a turnover of Rs 21.25 crore, open interest of 26,430 tonnes and total volume of 38,010 tonnes. The March 08 contract rose by 1.95% at Rs 569 per quintal.
- The Potato (Tarkeshwar) contract recorded turnover of Rs 4.24 crore, OI of 12, 180 tonnes and volume of 8,790 tonnes. The March ‘08 delivery contract improved by 1.19% at Rs 485.60 per quintal.
- Cardamom contracts clocked a turnover of Rs 146.93. crore, OI of 277 tonnes and volume of 2,150 tonnes. The February 08 contract was up by 3.76% at Rs 690 .50 per kg.
- MCX chana contracts clocked a turnover of Rs 331.72 crore, OI of 9,160 tonnes and volume of 149,510 tonnes. The January contract went up by 2.39% at Rs 2,182 per quintal.
- MCX kapaskhali contracts clocked a turnover of Rs 33.55 crore, OI of 20,195 tonnes and volume of 41,850 tonnes. The January 08 contract was down by 0.41 % at Rs 393.40 per 50 kgs.
- MCX guarseed contracts netted in a turnover of Rs 16.63 crore, OI of 2,010 tonnes and volume of 9,160 tonnes. January 08 contract lost 2.70% at Rs 1,640 per quintal.
