MCX Weekly Market Report - Bullion Contracts Clock Turnover Of Rs 20,343.78 Crore, Copper Contracts Turnover At Rs 9016.64 Cr

Total turnover (single sided) of all MCX contracts for the week April 27-May 3, 2007 (Friday-Thursday) 2007 was Rs 43,662.36 crore, down 12.15% from the previous week’s close.

MCX COMDEX at 2212.16 points was up 0.8% from the previous closing of 2194.7 points. MCX Agri Index closed down 0.5% at 1711.39 points, MCX Energy Index at 2180.48 points, down 0.89% and MCX Metal Index at 2715.43 points, up 2.62%.

In the Bullion segment, MCX Gold contracts registered a turnover of Rs 9955.11 crore, down 17.5% from the previous closing, silver contracts clocked turnover of Rs 10,388.67 crore, down 7.8%. Open interest for all gold contracts was 12353.9 kgs and total volume recorded was 1,08,858.6 kgs. Open interest for all silver contracts was 4,06,735 kgs and total volume was 55,51,410 kgs.

In the Metal segment, MCX Copper contracts across the board registered a turnover of Rs 9016.64 crore, down 31.19%.Open interest was 11,978 tonnes and total volume 2,75,436 tonnes.

MCX Zinc contracts recorded a turnover of Rs 4836.04 crore, down 3.7%, open interest of 18,620 tonnes and total volume of 3,05,315 tonnes.

In the Energy segment, all MCX crude oil contracts registered a turnover of Rs 5969.12 crore, up 25.13%, open interest of 15,50,700 barrels and total volume of 2,22,42,800 barrels while natural gas contracts recorded a turnover of Rs 237.14 crore, down 12.85%, open interest of 14,11,500 mmbtu and total volume of 73,64,500 mmbtu.

Some of the other major agri-commodities traded on MCX registered the following turnover -

• All Mentha Oil contracts registered a turnover of Rs. 266.10 crore, open interest of 1302.12 tonnes and total volume of 4,561.2 tonnes.
• All MCX Refined Soy Oil contracts, with open interest of 51,140 tonnes, registered a turnover of Rs. 875.86 crore and total volume of 1,80,080 tonnes.
• All MCX Potato (Agra) contract registered a turnover of Rs. 117.73 crore, open interest of 80,160 tonnes and total volume of 1,94,490 tonnes.
