Manuel Ardanza, New CEO Of The Bilbao Stock Exchange

The Board of Directors of BME has appointed the Vizcaya-born lawyer Manuel Ardanza as CEO and General Manager of the Bilbao Stock Exchange, replacing José Luis Damborenea, who has headed the exchange since 1991 and now steps down for retirement.

Ardanza joined the governing body of the stock exchange in March 1990, where he was appointed Director of Supervision and Market and since the year 2000 he has been Deputy General Manager. He is also a member of the Trading Committee of the Sociedad de Bolsas, of the MAB market’s Board of Directors and of the Spanish Derivatives market, MEFF.

Prior to joining the Bilbao Stock Exchange, Ardanza worked as a lawyer and corporate advisor, also acting as a legal Adviser, helping to draft the bylaws of the Entidad de Previsión Social Voluntaria Juan Urrutia and as Secretary General of the Collective Agreement of Iberduero. He is regarded as an outstanding figure in the area of stock exchange law and has furthered his educational vocation teaching financial law at the Deusto University.
