Malaysia Derivatives Exchange Resolves Technical Difficulty, Market Opens As Usual

Malaysia Derivatives Exchange (MDEX) opened for trading as usual at 8:45 a.m. today after having resolved some technical difficulty in its system.

The problem was detected after close of trading on Monday, 7 July 2003. The problem did not affect trading, clearing and settlement operations and all obligations were duly met.

MDEX took immediate remedial measures to rectify the problem which was resolved at 1:30 a.m today. No further problems were detected when MDEX opened for trading at 8:45 a.m, Tuesday, 8 July 2003.

MDEX continued to monitor the situation closely during trading. MDEX's observation of orders and trading indicated no perceptible impact on the market. Orders were received by the system as usual beginning 8:15 a.m. whilst matching of orders was not affected in any way during trading.

MDEX will continue to monitor the situation to ensure its system and all trading, clearing and settlement operations are functioning at optimum capacity.
