Malaysia And Japan Co-Host Regional Corporate Governance Forum

Date 06/06/2013

The Securities Commission Malaysia (SC) today concluded the two-day Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) Asian Roundtable on Corporate Governance (ARCG), organised in partnership with the Government of Japan.

Over 60 participants from the region gathered at the SC Building from 5 to 6 June to discuss Asia’s corporate governance agenda and set the tone for immediate-term priorities.

During the two day closed door session, high-level regulators, regional institutions, academics and business leaders shared major developments and challenges, evaluated implementation and enforcement efforts, as well as analysed policy options to support viable and effective corporate governance reforms.

The Roundtable is hosted by SC, together with Bursa Malaysia and Securities Industry Development Corporation, in partnership with the Government of Japan. This is the second time the Roundtable was held in Malaysia since 2004.

The OECD Asian CG Roundtable, established in 1999, has been a valuable thought leadership platform to enable new perspectives and practices in corporate governance in the region. In conjunction with the Roundtable, the SC also organised the International CG Seminar on 6 June, which featured an oxford-style debate between Bank Muamalat Malaysia Bhd chairman Tan Sri Mohd Munir Majid and Institute of Corporate Directors, Philippines chairman Dr Jesus Estanislao on “Corporate governance practices in Asia will be the future global standard”.
