Luxembourg Stock Exchange Annual General Meeting

Date 21/04/2010

The Luxembourg Stock Exchange held its annual general meeting on 21 April 2010.

Total revenue compared to last year was little changed and for 2009 amounted to EUR 42.35 million against EUR 41.96 million in 2008. Listing activities, its core business, accounted for 73.78% of the total while in 2008, it accounted for 75.75%.

The Exchange saw increases in revenue from data and information products. Revenue from sales of market data reached EUR 5.86 million (13.98% of the total). Finesti, its whollyowned subsidiary specialised in collection and dissemination of data and documents for the investment fund industry, contributed EUR 4.89 million (11.65%) to the total. This growth is in line with previous years and the long-term aim of the Luxembourg Stock Exchange for greater diversification of its revenue base.

The AGM approved the payment of a net dividend of EUR 42.50 per share against EUR 34.85 for the previous year. Net profit for the year was EUR 12.03 million in 2009, against EUR 9.56 million in 2008, an increase of 25.9%.

Despite these good results, the Exchange saw a marked decline in the absolute number of securities listed from 49,097 quotation lines in 2008 to 45,660 at the and of 2009. This was largely a result of the situation in the international capital markets. The Exchange reported that while the overall number of bonds (its main segment) diminished, the issue amount increased by more than 8%.

The Luxembourg Stock Exchange retains its position as Europe’s leading centre for international securities. Some 42% of all international bonds that are listed on European exchanges are listed in Luxembourg.

Finally, the ordinary general meeting appointed the following directors for a term of three years:

  • Claude Schon, membre du Comité de direction, Dexia Banque Internationale à Luxembourg S.A.
  • Michel Birel, Directeur général adjoint, Banque et Caisse d’Epargne de l’Etat
