Lord Levene said in letter to Supervisory Board Chairman Rolf-E. Breuer: "The original kind invitation to me to join the Supervisory Board was primarily in order to provide advice and assistance in the company’s endeavours to buy the London Stock Exchange. Since this transaction is no longer proceeding, I believe that my contribution to the Board will be much more limited. But additionally, I agreed to join the Board on the basis that there were four meetings per annum. I now find that the demands are considerably greater than this and have reached a level which sadly I cannot meet. In the circumstances therefore, I hope that you will understand my position."
Rolf-E. Breuer commented: "I regret Lord Levene’s decision that was taken against the background of limited time resources. I would like to thank Lord Levene for his valuable contribution to the work of the Supervisory Board of Deutsche Börse."
