- The number of average daily trades in UK and international shares rose by 7 per cent from 184,670 in January 2001 to 196,766 in January 2002.
- 53.6 billion UK shares were traded in January, up from 53.2 billion in January 2001.
- The number of trades in international shares was up 17 per cent on the same month in 2001, rising from 1.28 million trades to 1.5 million.
Trading in Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs) has continued to increase, reaching 3,431 trades in January 2002. The previous high was 3,059 in November 2001. There are 14 ETFs listed on the London Stock Exchange, which has risen from 3 ETFs in January 2001.
There were 21 new issues during January 2002, 6 of which were IPOs. The 6 IPOs were split between AIM (3) and the main market (3), raising £69 million between them. The total capital raised by new companies in January was £108 million. In the same month in 2001, there were 22 new issues raising £82 million.
