London Stock Exchange Appoints New Chief Information Officer - Further Strengthening Its Executive Team

Date 06/06/2001

The London Stock Exchange today announced the appointment of David Lester as Chief Information Officer (CIO). The purpose of this new senior role will be to maintain, develop and exploit the Exchange's technology and information services.

David Lester, moving from his position as CIO at Regus PLC, will further strengthen Clara Furse's executive team. David's appointment coincides with the arrival of Phil Bruce, who has now joined the Exchange from the London Clearing House, filling an important new role as Head of Corporate Strategy. Phil is expected to make a significant contribution to the Exchange's strategic development.

The team also includes Martin Wheatley, Deputy Chief Executive, Jonathan Howell, Director of Finance, Nick Gammage, Director of Communications and Andrew McStravick, Director of Operations. The Chief Executive's core team will be completed once a director of Marketing has been appointed.

David Lester's credentials include five years at Primark where he was Global Product Development Director before co-running an internet spin-out, marketeye.com. As Primark's Global Product Development Director his remit was to integrate all of Primark's trading and information products on to a single platform. As CIO of marketeye.com he focused on both the technology and content aspects of a global private investor web product.

Commenting on the appointment, Clara Furse said: "I am delighted to welcome David to the Exchange. In order to deliver the strategy I have set out, we intend to create additional revenue by exploiting technology and information services. Responsible for all aspects of information products, which generate 44 per cent of the Exchange's revenues, David is the ideal candidate to develop this business stream and to market it aggressively to a world-wide user community. His remit will also include the developing of further technology partnerships along the lines of that announced recently with Johannesburg."

David will join the Exchange on 18 June 2001.
