Anna Howard, London South Bank Univerisity's (LSBU) Associate Professor in the School of Business has won a ‘WeAreTheCity’s Rising Star Award, designed to recognise the achievements of women who have excelled in their chosen field of business.
Now in their third year, the WeAreTheCity Rising Star Awards are the first to focus on the UK’s female talent pipeline below management level. This awards ceremony was conceived to celebrate 100 individual female contributors that represent the leaders and role models of tomorrow.
The 100 winners were drawn from a 200-strong shortlist showcasing remarkable women in business within the UK from across 20 categories representing different industries/professions including banking, charity, defence, entrepreneurs, consulting, insurance, sales, technology, sport and construction.
LSBU’s Anna Howard said: “It was really great to hear that I’d won a Rising Star award. The news came to me as a total surprise to me as I had no idea I’d been nominated in the first place.
“It’s an honour to be considered for this accolade in the company of such remarkable women.”
Professor Mike Molan, Dean of LSBU’s School of Business said: “It's an incredibly impressive list of individuals and we congratulate WeAreTheCity on giving visibility to these amazing women.
“These women, along with previous nominees and winners, are critical in motivating other talented women to join the workplace and act as an inspiration to those already there.”
Vanessa Vallely, founder of WeAreTheCity, said of Rising Star awards said: “Once again the response to the Rising Star awards has been amazing, both in terms of the amount of nominations received and the calibre of entries. We know there is an amazing amount of female talent across the UK and it gives us such pleasure to be able to shine a light on these women’s achievements through our awards. I am looking forward to celebrating our 200 strong shortlist before heading in to the final round of judging to identify our top100 winners.”
This annual awards ceremony is sponsored by Bloomberg who announced the winners formally on 19 June. A subsequent awards ceremony will be held on 12 July, hosted by News UK.
