Date 11/05/2009

George Adcock, Business Manager for Non-Ferrous Metals at The London Metal Exchange (LME), the world’s premier non-ferrous metals market, will address attendees of the 14th World Aluminium Conference, explaining the strategic role of an exchange in a recessionary environment and the value of hedging in a downturn.

Mr. Adcock will deliver his speech on Monday, 11th May - the first day of the conference, held at the Grand Hyatt, Dubai - during Session 1 titled: Supply, Demand and Metals Market Outlook. George will provide an overview, including: the strategic role of an exchange in a recessionary environment, the value of hedging in a downturn and current activity on the Exchange and future developments.

The LME facilitates the trading of the largest volume of aluminium futures and options contracts in the world. In September last year the Exchange launched extended prompt dates for Primary Aluminium, Copper Grade A, Special High Grade Zinc, Primary Nickel and Standard Lead contracts. Primary Aluminium and Copper Grade A, are now trading out to 10 years (previously 5 years), and are the world’s furthest forward, physically delivered, exchange-traded commodity futures contracts. Special High Grade Zinc, Primary Nickel and Standard Lead can now be traded out to 5 years (Zinc, Nickel previously 27 months, Lead previously 15 months).

At the LME conference stand, delegates will be able to speak to LME specialists, including Mr. Adcock, about the role of traded options for aluminium and other non-ferrous metals. Attendees will also be able to have live demonstrations of LMElive, the Exchange's own real-time price and data product which provides access to prices, charts and key market reports.

The London Metal Exchange is the world's premier non-ferrous metals market. It offers futures and options contracts for aluminium, aluminium alloy, copper, tin, nickel, zinc, lead and NASAAC, steel billet, plastics and soon cobalt and molybdenum.
