Trading at the London Metal Exchange (LME) reached record levels in June, up 28% on June 2012, taking volumes in the first half of the year to a new high.
June saw volumes rise for a third consecutive month with 16,319,351 lots traded. Trading in the first half rose 9% to 86,782,950 lots compared with 79,564,146 lots in the corresponding period of 2012.
Nickel and cobalt volumes experienced the largest growth year to date, with first half volumes up 23% and 21% respectively. Aluminium was up 14%, tin increased 19%, zinc saw an increase of 7% and copper volumes were up 6% compared with H1 2012.
In the first half of 2013, the LME's average daily volume was 699,863 lots, up 10% from the corresponding period in 2012.
