Record volumes were transacted for the second consecutive month on the London Metal Exchange (LME) in May 2013, with 14,597,723 lots traded. April 2013 saw a record of 14,517,213 lots traded.
Aluminium volumes increased 7% in May 2013 compared with the corresponding month last year. Copper was up 10%, zinc increased 13% and nickel saw an increase of 19% in traded volumes. Cobalt experienced the largest growth, with May volumes up 30% from the corresponding month in 2012.
To date this year the LME is averaging 695,130 lots per day, up 13% from the corresponding month in 2012.
