Ljubljana Stock Exchange: Slovenian Know-How Implemented In Macedonia

On 25 April 2001, at the 5th anniversary of the establishment of the Macedonian Stock Exchange, Macedonian Prime Minister, Mr Ljubco Georgievski, started the trading on the electronic trading system - BEST that had been developed by the know-how and the transfer of technologies of the BTS trading system of the Ljubljana Stock Exchange. Dr Drasko Veselinovic, President & CEO of the LjSE, as well as Mr Mitja Strukelj, Slovenian Ambassador to Macedonia, and Mr Bojan Skoda, State Undersecretary from the Ministry of Economy also attended the opening ceremony.

The process of co-operation between the two Exchanges started in October 2000, and has included the transfer of the BTS trading system technology, and with it, the transfer of the Ljubljana Stock Exchange know-how, to the Macedonian Stock Exchange operations. The co-operation is expected to continue, according to the three-year maintenance agreement, development and support of the BEST electronic system in Macedonia, along with some other fields of long-term cooperation.

Being part of its business strategy, Ljubljana Stock Exchange thus plans to broaden its activities to the regions of Southeastern Europe. The co-operation between the two Exchanges will be, in this way, even stronger, as the Chief Executive Officers, Dr Evgeni Zografski and Dr Drasko Veselinovic signed the memorandum of cooperation. The memorandum also includes interlisting, and in future also cross-membership on the two exchanges.
