Ljubljana Stock Exchange Revises Its Indices And Introduces New Slovenian Blue-Chip Index SBI TOP

Date 21/03/2006

The Ljubljana Stock Exchange has carried out a revision of its indices and will also, starting on 1 April 2006, launch the new Slovenian blue-chip index SBI TOP, measuring the performance of the most liquid Slovene companies. The new index is aimed at providing an underlying for derivatives and structured financial instruments on the Slovene market.

The calculation of the new Slovenian blue-chip index SBI TOP, introduced by the Ljubljana Stock Exchange, will begin on 1 April 2006. It will measure the performance of the most liquid Slovenian companies and will be calculated on the basis of values given in euros.

SBI TOP is aimed at providing an underlying for derivatives and structured financial instruments on the Slovene market. As such, the index must follow the performance of the biggest Slovene companies, as well as comprise the most liquid shares. SBI TOP will thus be composed of only the shares included in the SBI 20 index complying with the following criteria:

  • free float capitalisation min. EUR 100 m;
  • average daily value min. EUR 50,000;
  • average daily number of transactions min. 10.
The SBI TOP will comprise the following companies: Krka, Petrol, Mercator, Gorenje and Pivovarna Laško.

The existing SBI 20, the previous Slovenian blue-chip index, has consequently been restructured into the Slovene total market index. In order for its calculation methods to encompass the performance of the total Slovene share market, it now comprises shares from the official as well as the semi-official markets.

On 15 March 2006, the Ljubljana Stock Exchange carried out the annual revision of the SBI 20, SBI TOP and PIX indices, encompassing the period from 16 March 2005 to 15 March 2006, as well as the semi-annual revision of the BIO index, comprising the period from 16 September 2005 to 15 March 2006.

Based on the criteria for the inclusion of shares and bonds into indices, the following changes to the composition of the below indices will take effect from 1 April 2006:

Slovene total market index – SBI 20
Inclusion of shares:
Cinkarna Celje – CICG,
Helios Domžale – HDOG and
