Ljubljana Stock Exchange Monthly Statistical Report October 2005 Turnover

The total turnover on the BTS system of the Ljubljana Stock Exchange (LJSE) in October 2005 amounted to SIT 12.1 billion. The turnover in October was therefore 27.5% lower than last year's average. Compared to October 2004, the total turnover decreased in size by SIT 1.2 billion (-9.2%).

In October 2005, shares of listed companies amounted to 78.7% in the overall LJSE turnover structure. These were followed by bonds with a 12.6% share in the overall turnover structure, while investment funds came next, trading in the amount of 8.7% of total turnover. In the last month, shares of listed companies gained 5.6 percentage points in the overall turnover structure. However, the share of bonds in the overall turnover structure fell (-4.5%), as did the shares of investment funds (-0.9%) and treasury bills (-0.2%).

During the 20 trading days in October, a total of 19,536 transactions was concluded. On average, this amounts to 977 transactions per day, or rather 29.2% less than the average for last year. The average daily turnover in October amounted to SIT 604.2 million, or rather 23.0% less than last year's average.

Turnover included all trades on official and semi-official market, excluded block and TUVL trades.

Block trading

In October 2005, LJSE members reported 91 block transactions in a total value of SIT 10.9 billion. The total monthly turnover of registered block trades thus exceeded the BTS system turnover by SIT 1.2 billion in the past month. The average value of a single registered block transaction in October amounted to SIT 119.7 million, while the average value of a transaction concluded on the BTS system amounted to SIT 618,500.

Indices

The SBI 20, the official market index, gained 0.6% in October. The index recorded the growth particularly in the second half of the month. It reached its highest value on 20 October at 4,538 points, and the lowest on 10 October at 4,422 points. In the last twelve months, the SBI 20 has fallen by 6.4%.

The Investment Funds Index PIX, lost 1.4% of its value this October. In the last twelve months, the index has fallen by 7.6%.

In October, the Bond Index (BIO) gained 0.7%. The index finished the highest number of trading days on a positive note out of all the LJSE indices (eleven). In the last twelve months, the index has grown by 3.1%, making it the highest yielding index on the Ljubljana Stock Exchange in this period.

Price movements of selected shares

On the official market of the Ljubljana Stock Exchange, prices of six shares increased out of a total number of 24. Among the shares included in the SBI 20 index, the biggest growth was recorded by shares of the following companies: Krka (+11.1%), Sava (+3.4%), and Gorenje (+1.3%). On the other hand, the worst performers in October were shares of Terme Catez (-5.5%), Intereuropa (-5.0%), Etol (-4.9%) and Zito (-4.9%).

The annual comparison period shows that in the last twelve months, the prices of seven shares on the official market increased. Among the shares included in the SBI 20 index, the shares of the following companies recorded the biggest growth in the stated period: Krka (+15.6%), Sava (+14.8%) and Aerodrom (+2.9%). On the other hand, prices of sixteen shares fell. Among the SBI 20 shares, Intereuropa was the worst performer, recording a loss of 27.3%. The shares of Zito (-25.4%), Etol (-22.6%) and Terme Catez (-19.2%) also recorded noteworthy losses.

Market capitalisation

On 31 October 2005, the total market capitalisation of shares traded on the Ljubljana Stock Exchange amounted to SIT 1,568 billion. The highest participation in the market capitalisation was recorded by shares of listed companies (50.5%); these were followed by bonds (44.3%) and investment funds (5.2%). In the last month, the LJSE market capitalisation of shares of listed companies increased by SIT 75.3 billion.

The increase is due largely to the admission of new shares to trading on the LJSE. The market capitalisation of bonds also increased, namely by SIT 17.5 billion. On the other hand, the market capitalisation of investment funds decreased by SIT 2.1 billion due to the fall in the corresponding share prices.

Within one year, the market capitalisation of shares on the official market decreased from SIT 1,210.1 to SIT 1,140.4 billion (-5.8%). In the same period, the market capitalisation of shares on the semi-official market fell by 8.9% from SIT 468.6 billion to SIT 427.1 billion.
