Ljubljana Stock Exchange Becomes A Full Member Of The Federation Of European Securities Exchanges (FESE)

Date 01/06/2004

On 1 June 2004, at the convening of the General Assembly of the Federation of European Securities Exchanges, the Ljubljana Stock Exchange, formerly an Associate Member, has become a full member of that important European organisation. The securities exchanges of Bratislava, Cyprus, Malta, Prague, Tallinn, Budapest, Lithuania, Riga and Warsaw were also admitted to full-time FESE membership. For the Ljubljana Stock Exchange, among other things, the admission to the full membership also means having the same voting right on all important matters as all other developed European securities exchanges and the possibility of more active and substantial cooperation in shaping of the development of the European securities markets.

The Ljubljana Stock Exchange, together with the Budapest and Warsaw Stock Exchanges, was invited into associate membership with FESE already in 1999, and had become a full member of the World Federation of Exchanges even almost two years earlier; a clear recognition of compliance with the standards of the developed European and global financial markets. Even though the Ljubljana Stock Exchange is one of the smallest European securities exchanges, it has been a regular and active participant of the working meetings and assemblies of the Federation.

The Federation of European Securities Exchanges above all represents, strives to bring into line and promote the common interests of European exchanges, which are its members. At the European level, it seeks to inform the decision-making process and to influence European policies and legislative proposals, thus contributing to the realisation of the aims enshrined in the Treaties of the European Union in the field of financial and securities markets. The Federation takes an active part in and coordinates all activities regarding the European Commission and other international organisations that have similar aims (SEC, CESR etc.), in order to promote enhancement of the securities markets within Europe and achieve effective global capital markets.

For the Ljubljana Stock Exchange, among other things, the admission to the full membership also means having the same voting right on all important matters as all other developed European securities exchanges and the possibility of more active and substantial cooperation in shaping of the development of the European securities markets.
