For the first time in a single year, more than one billion contracts have been traded on Liffe, the international derivatives business of NYSE Euronext (NYX). The billionth contract was traded by noon on 4 December.
Hugh Freedberg, Group Executive Vice President and Head of Global Derivatives at NYSE Euronext, said: “This milestone has come near the end of a defining year for Liffe during which we efficiently served our customers’ changing needs and continued to grow during a period of extraordinary market turbulence.
“Our pioneering wholesale service, Bclear, has had a record year, with over 175 million contracts processed. Since launch in 2005 Bclear has processed over 353 million contracts. This is an unmatched track-record that gives us a great advantage when we launch credit default swaps on Bclear.”
Last year Liffe traded 949 million contracts.
