LIFFE Trades £226 Billion Worth Of Contracts In April 2000

The London International Financial Futures and Options Exchange (LIFFE) traded an average daily nominal value of £226 billion (?361 billion) and traded a total value £4,068 billion (?6508 billion) in April 2000.

LIFFE traded 8,845,962 futures and options contracts during April 2000 representing an average daily volume of 491,442 contracts.

LIFFE's Chief Executive, Hugh Freedberg said, "LIFFE's average daily volume rose in April by 8% compared to April 1999. The average daily volume for Three Month Euribor, LIFFE's most heavily traded contract, increased by 77% over the same period, with LIFFE's share of the world market rising to over 96%.

Yesterday's trading of Financial Options, their first day on LIFFE CONNECT™, started well with over 115,000 contracts traded on the world's most advanced system capable of trading such complex financial products."

The following daily records were set in April: Euribor Future set a new daily record trading 563,254 contracts on 19 April (previous daily record of 414,358 set on 3 February 2000); Euro Pack (Euribor futures and options) set a new daily record trading 633,434 contracts on 5 April (previous daily record of 511,744 set on 27 January 2000); White Sugar future set a new daily record of 12,829 contracts on 6 April (previous daily record of 12,602 set on 10 February 2000).
