LIFFE trades £183BN per day in August 1999
Date 03/09/1999
The average daily nominal value of contracts traded on the London International Financial Futures and Options Exchange (LIFFE) was £183 billion during August 1999 and the total nominal value traded was £4,025,000 billion.
Hugh Freedberg, LIFFE's Chief Executive, said "Total exchange open interest, a key indicator of liquidity as well as long term use of the market, was up 4% on July 1999, at 6,583,743 contracts. The open interest record in the Three Month Euroswiss futures contract is promising for the successful listing of the remaining Short Term Interest Rate (STIR) contracts onto LIFFE CONNECT™, and further highlights LIFFE's position as a world centre for European money market derivatives. We are encouraged to see that the total volumes traded in LIFFE's Equity Products and Commodity Products year to date were up 33% and 18% respectively on 1998".
From January to August a total of 84,005,862 contracts were traded on the Exchange.
