LIFFE Launches More Individual Equity Options To Meet Growing Demand

Date 06/09/2001

The London International Financial Futures and Options Exchange (LIFFE) has announced that it will launch four new equity options on stock in Amvescap plc, BHP Billiton plc, Reckitt Benckiser plc and WPP Group plc on Monday 24 September 2001. The launch of these new equity options is in response to customer demand and exceptional volumes in existing equity option contracts.

The four new individual equity option contracts, which are all on stocks included in the FTSE 100 index, will enhance LIFFE's existing range. They bring the total number of equity options offered by LIFFE to 93.

The introduction of further equity options comes after another month of record volumes in equity options traded on LIFFE CONNECT TM, LIFFE's leading edge electronic trading platform. Amid uncertainty on stock exchanges worldwide, LIFFE's equity option products traded 939,736 lots in August, up 139.8% on August 2000.

LIFFE's Head of Equities, Jonathan Seymour said: "LIFFE's equity options enable investors to benefit from falling markets, rising markets or indeed static markets. They also provide investors with exposure to the equity market for a fraction of the cost of dealing in the underlying shares.

LIFFE's suite of equity options products has continued to see record growth in volume and open interest in recent months. The growth rate has been phenomenal compared to this time last year and by listing new equity options, LIFFE continues to increase its range of equity products to suit its customers needs."
