LIFFE Appoints Chief Information Officer Of LIFFE's Technology Business

The London International Financial Futures and Options Exchange (LIFFE) has appointed Mark Hemsley as Chief Information Officer of LIFFE's new technology business.

Mark Hemsley (38), joins LIFFE from Deutsche Bank where he was a Managing Director of the Global Technology Division. Hugh Freedberg, LIFFE's Chief Executive said: "Mark has direct experience of developing and implementing technical strategy and has focused on meeting the technology requirements to support trading across a wide range of markets. His expertise will be a great asset in building LIFFE's technology business."

LIFFE is setting up a separate technology business with Mark Hemsley as its CIO, following shareholder approval of the Board's plans to work with Cap Gemini Ernst & Young, Battery Ventures and The Blackstone Group to develop and exploit the technology opportunities associated with LIFFE CONNECTâ„¢ and with the Exchange's expertise in markets.

A graduate trainee with ICL, Mark moved on to technology appointments with major financial institutions, including NatWest Capital Markets, CSFB and Kleinwort Benson. He completed an MBA at the City University Business School and is a member of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants and the Association of Corporate Treasurers. He says of his new position, "This is a very exciting time to join LIFFE. My priorities will be to commercialise LIFFE's technology assets so that it can be deployed to support the development and trading requirements of electronic markets."
