Launch Of The Public - Private Partnership Platform

Under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE, and Ruler of Dubai, and with the support of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy (DSCE), His Excellency Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Vice Chairman of the DSCE and MD & CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) and Chairman of The Organizing Committee for the World Green Economy Summit (WGES), yesterday hosted a press conference at Armani Hotel to provide further details on the second World Green Economy Summit (“WGES”) 2015 and to launch the Public-Private Partnership Platform.

The Summit, due to be held on 22nd and 23rd April 2015 under the theme "Global Partnerships, Sustainable Future", within its programme will carry the Global Green Public-Private Partnership Platform aimed at bridging together different stakeholders and fostering sustainable development.

HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer commencing with a quote from, HH Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, "We must continuously innovate, or we will stagnate", touched upon a variety of points throughout his speech at yesterday's press conference. He spoke about the various strategies Dubai has been working on to promote sustainable development and green initiatives, the Dubai Declaration and its aim to make Dubai a capital of green economy and role model on both regional and international levels. He listed the goals already achieved and surpassed and defined goals put forth along with the implementation of programmes which will aid in reaching them. His Excellency concluded, addressing the importance of such a global event as the World Green Economy Summit and its Public-Private Partnership Platform, stating that it provides an opportunity for the private and public sector to collaborate towards building a more green and sustainable future and that - "In order to effect global climate change, we need a global approach."

During his speech His Excellency also referred to DEWA's recent announcement of doubling the capacity of the second phase of the Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, which is to be built in Public Private Partnership, from 100 megawatts to 200 megawatts in 2017. His Excellency stated, "Today, we expand our relentless efforts to achieve our goals of green economy and sustainable development."

The press conference as well included a revealing of the World Green Economy Summit's current 21 partners such as UNDP, IRENA and ICC and 15 sponsors such as Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank, Emirates National Oil Company and Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank.
