Bursa Malaysia Berhad (“Bursa Malaysia”) hosted a conference entitled “Empowering Women Series”, in order to encourage more women to hold positions in the board of directors of a company.
This inaugural conference, which will be conducted on 9 November 2016 with another iteration on 10 November, is facilitated INSEAD Business School which is one of the world’s leading business schools.
Chief Executive Office of Bursa Malaysia, Datuk Seri Tajuddin Atan said: “This programme is a culmination of our earlier global initiative under the auspices of the Sustainable Stock Exchanges (SSE) to raise awareness on women empowerment for sustainable development, and marks our continued commitment to this important agenda. To date, there are approximately 26% women in senior management including CEOs, in our listed companies. We are close to achieving our national target of 30% women in decision-making positions. As such, there is no reason why we should not be able to increase the number of women on boards of our listed companies. With this in mind we have designed the ‘Empowering Women Series’ programme for women in senior management to further develop their leadership skills and to prepare them for board positions”.
“We believe that diversity together with the appropriate experience, expertise and skills would enhance the overall effectiveness of boards in our listed companies,” added Datuk Seri Tajuddin.
The conference will be conducted in two sessions. The first session will address issues on creating and mobilising professional relations networks to complete task and attain personal goals, and address common misconceptions about getting the “right connections”. Participants will analyse their existing professional relations network and learn to maximise them to achieve personal goals.
The second session will focus on effective leadership, power and influence. In this session, participants will discuss the sources of power in an organisation and how to use them in ways that will enhance their career advancement and organisation effectiveness.
Speakers for the programme are Professor Zoe Kinias and Professor Martin Gargiulo of INSEAD Business School. Professor Kinias focuses on how social identities and situational factors affects individual’s understanding of social and professional events and on how to improve individual and group performance. At INSEAD, Professor Kinias teaches Psychological Issues in Management.
Professor Gargiulo is a Professor of Organisational Behaviour at the same institution. Professor Gargiulo currently directs the High Impact Leadership Programme and has designed and directed programmes targeted to high potential managers for leading multinational firms.
