KVH Co. Ltd., Asia’s leading information delivery platform headquartered in Tokyo, Japan, today announced a new service called "KVH etherXEN for SoftLayer" that provides customers a dedicated Ethernet network connection from their own IT infrastructure and data centers to IBM’s SoftLayer cloud services. With faster and more consistent network performance, KVH etherXEN for SoftLayer is a guaranteed private network that brings enterprise customers new opportunities for creating hybrid-computing solutions that merge private infrastructure with SoftLayer’s cloud environments on dedicated bare metal servers. This service will be available in December 2014.
The demand for advanced hybrid cloud environments has been steadily increasing as cloud users want to connect public cloud, private cloud and dedicated IT resources to create the computing environment that best fits their needs. To address this growing trend, KVH has been offering since 2012 highly cost effective, reliable, and secure dedicated private network connections to Amazon Web Services (AWS). With this new private network service connecting to SoftLayer, KVH is expanding the hybrid cloud options it provides to its enterprise customers.
KVH’s etherXEN, announced in May 2014, is a low-latency, next generation Ethernet service that incorporates Software-Defined-Network (SDN) features to deliver a highly scalable and flexible network architecture that meets the requirements of cloud or data center services.
Key characteristics of KVH etherXEN for Softayer are as follows:
- Secure and Stable Network: KVH etherXEN for SoftLayer provides a private network connection to SoftLayer without going through the public internet that delivers a highly secure and stable network with minimal exposure to service quality fluctuations and latency.
- Low Latency and Highly Reliable Network: KVH’s ultra-low latency network was designed to support the mission critical applications of financial service providers and includes redundancy across the entire core backbone and optional redundancy in access circuits, ensuring end-to-end guaranteed bandwidth and high speed switching within 50msec of a failure.
- Reduced Cost: Customers can reduce overall network costs by avoiding large upfront capital expenditures for data center space to serve as an access point to SoftLayer.
- Highly Scalable and Flexible: As circuit terminal equipment is already installed, service delivery can be completed in as fast as 10 business days. Bandwidth can be easily upgraded without changing the interface or equipment at the customer’s site, since access link capacity of 1Gbps is already provided. It is also possible for customers to begin with 100Mbps and later upgrade to 1Gbps within 10 business days to accommodate traffic fluctuations without changing the interface or equipment at the customer’s site.
KVH etherXEN for SoftLayer comes in different service variations to match customer specific business needs, including guaranteed bandwidth services of 100Mbps or 1Gbps, and a burstable service with 100Mbps or 300Mbps of guaranteed bandwidth that can flex to 1Gbps as needs dictate. Please contact KVH’s Japan Sales Office (sales-japan@KVHasia.com) for further details on pricing.
KVH etherXEN for SoftLayer includes service level agreements (SLA’s) for service availability, fault handling, bandwidth and service delivery.
KVH is a certified service and solution provider for IBM SoftLayer to support network implementation and management.
