KVH Co. Ltd., Asia’s leading information delivery platform provider headquartered in Tokyo, Japan, today announced it has joined the Metro Ethernet Forum (“MEF”), an industry alliance comprising telecommunication service providers, network equipment manufacturers and others.
MEF, established in 2001 to accelerate the adoption of carrier-class Ethernet networks and services, develops technical specifications, issues certifications and provides training on best practices related to building and operating advanced Ethernet networks. Currently, MEF has more than 220 member companies, including 135 major telecom service providers, and 85 network equipment manufacturers. The organization has developed more than 40 technical specifications and has issued certifications to more than 150 enterprises and 1,500 industry experts.
Since its founding in 1999, KVH has been committed to providing innovative network services to its enterprise and carrier customers. With metropolitan fiber networks in greater Tokyo and Osaka and international points of presence[1] in major Asia hubs, KVH is recognized as the leading low-latency network in Japan, providing connectivity between major Japanese exchanges, trading venues in other markets, and global trading participants in the Asia Pacific region through its flat network architecture and best-in-class technologies.
With revolutionary new technologies like Software Defined Networks (SDN) gaining attention in the IT network industry, KVH’s entry in the MEF signals its continued commitment to promote and develop innovative technologies like SDN and to improve the technical standards and best practices for its Ethernet services.
“Joining the MEF is a positive step for KVH as we continue our own sustained growth and work to provide the best network services to our customers,” said Edward Higase, President and Chief Executive Officer of KVH. “Our MEF membership further cements our position as Asia's leading information delivery platform, offering high-quality data center facilities, a global low-latency network, and scalable managed IT and cloud services for enterprises and service providers across the world.”
