Date 17/07/2003

Kuala Lumpur Stock Exchange (KLSE) today signed the collective agreement with the National Union of Commercial Workers (NUCW) on the terms and conditions of employment for non-executive staff of KLSE.

The collective agreement is applicable for a three year period with effect from 1 July 2001 to 30 June 2004.

At the signing ceremony, Executive Chairman of KLSE Dato' Mohd Azlan Hashim said that KLSE and NUCW have spent much thought, time and effort to establish an agreement that is acceptable to all parties.

"Much effort has been contributed to the process to ensure the agreement is practical and applicable for all parties taking into account employee, business and commercial requirements.

"As organisations contributing to the long term viability of corporate malaysia and the national economy - both KLSE and NUCW are working towards the same objectives, the same aspirations.

"We are working towards the development, upgrading and progress of our most valuable resource - our people," he said

Mohd Azlan added that at a broader level, the success of this country's economy is also driven by the working relationship between unions and employers.

"What is important is the willingness to work things out. This is something that we continue to believe in and we have to continue to practice.

"It is significant to note that the relationship between KLSE and NUCW is one of understanding and mutual co-operation.

"It is a fact that countries that continue to enjoy economic success and continued competitiveness, including Malaysia, have a stable economy and a productive and reliable workforce supporting the economy. It is important that we continue to work together to preserve this," Mohd Azlan said.

Mohd Azlan added having completed the collective agreement exercise, the staff of KLSE owe it to themselves to be the best that they can be.

"This is achieved through continued learning, training, the development of the right attitude, capability and skills in managing challenges and change.

"It is the effort and commitment of non-executive staff that will also ensure the excellent standards set for KLSE are achieved," Mohd Azlan said.
