Executive Chairman of KLSE, Dato' Mohd Azlan Hashim said this development is significant in reflecting the continued confidence and interest by issuers and companies seeking to raise capital in the Malaysian capital markets.
"This is indeed a collective achievement for market and industry participants in closing 2003 and in starting 2004 with the expectation for greater growth and expansion.
"For the year to date, the activity and growth in the IPO market of KLSE has been very positive, with a total of 54 new listings and total funds mobilised amounting to RM 7.52 billion," Mohd Azlan said.
With over 900 companies listed, KLSE is the fourth largest stock exchange in Asia in number of listed companies after Mumbai, Tokyo and Hong Kong. In market capitalisation, KLSE is seventh in Asia. Companies are listed in 14 sectors on KLSE, making the exchange one of the most diverse markets in Asia offering a wide choice for portfolio investment whilst providing niche sectors in plantation and infrastructure project companies. As at 18 December 2003, 97 companies listed on the KLSE are capitalised at over RM1 billion.
