Kuala Lumpur Stock Exchange Informed Investing Objective Of The Investor 2000

Date 25/04/2000

The objective of The Investor 2000 project by the Kuala Lumpur Stock Exchange (KLSE) is to promote informed investing amongst investors and to expand on the benefits of investing more on fundamentals and less on speculation.

KLSE First Deputy President Encik Md Nor Ahmad said The Investor 2000 is conceived from the idea of informing investors together - with KLSE working hand in hand with public listed companies and stockbroking companies.

"The Investor 2000 brings investors closer to KLSE, public listed companies and stockbroking companies here at the Balai Maklumat BSKL, the investment resource centre for investors," he said at the launching of The Investor 2000.

The launch was attended by Dato' Johari Mohamed, Chief Operations Officer of Johor Corporation. Representatives from Johor Land Berhad, KPJ Healthcare Berhad, Sindora Berhad, Kulim (Malaysia) Berhad, Pelangi Berhad, PCCS Group Berhad and PJB-OUB Securities Sdn Bhd were also present at the launch.

Programmes for The Investor 2000 include on-request briefings and demonstrations of the resources and facilities at the Balai Maklumat BSKL, Johor Bahru and daily exhibitions by public listed companies. Company briefings for investors and career talks for students will be organised every Saturday during the duration of the project. With continuing support from Johor-based public listed companies and stockbroking companies, the activities and programmes of The Investor 2000 is expected to continue until the launch of The Investor 2001.

The Investor 2000 project will also be launched for Sarawak-based public listed companies and stockbroking companies at the Balai Maklumat BSKL, Kuching in May. In June, The Investor 2000 project will be launched in Penang for Penang-based public listed companies and stockbroking companies.

With the full participation of public listed companies, The Investor 2000 will enable investors to know more of what they are investing in. This will benefit the public listed companies as they continue to utilise the stockmarket to generate capital. With the participation of stockbroking companies, investors will learn the operational aspects of their investment, which will generate more interest to invest.

Md Nor said with the full participation of stockbroking companies and public listed companies, The Investor 2000 is an important project with all around benefits for all participants and investors.

"Better informed investing based on fundamentals will contribute to the sustained growth in the stockmarket which will benefit all marke t participants," he said.

KLSE would like to encourage more Johor-based public listed companies and stockbroking companies to participate in The Investor 2000. Investors, students and members of public are encouraged to visit the Balai Maklumat BSKL, Johor Bahru.
