irkland & Ellis and CMS were the top mergers and acquisitions (M&A) legal advisers in Europe region during the first quarter (Q1) of 2023 by value and volume, respectively, according to the latest legal advisers league table by GlobalData, a leading
GlobalData’s Financial Deals Database reveals that Kirkland & Ellis achieved its leading position in term of value by advising on $7.6 billion worth of deals. Meanwhile, CMS led in terms of volume by advising on a total of 70 deals.
Aurojyoti Bose, Lead Analyst at GlobalData, comments: “CMS was a clear winner by volume in Q1 2023. It was the only firm to advise on more than 50 deals in Q1 2023 thereby outpacing its peers by a significant margin.
“Meanwhile, Kirkland & Ellis, despite advising on less than one-eighth of the number of deals advised by CMS, managed to occupy the top position by value due to its involvement in high-value transactions. The average size of deals advised by Kirkland & Ellis stood at $948.5 million, which is significantly high compared to CMS’ $28.1 million.”
An analysis of GlobalData’s Financial Deals Database reveals that Gide Loyrette Nouel occupied the second position by value, by advising on $4.9 billion worth of deals, followed by Latham & Watkins with $4.8 billion, Allen & Overy with $4.2 billion, and Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton with $3.7 billion.
Meanwhile, White & Case occupied the second position in terms of volume with 37 deals, followed by Jones Day with 26 deals, Allen & Overy with 24 deals, and Addleshaw Goddard with 24 deals.
