In October 2008, SIX Swiss Exchange, SWX Europe and Scoach Switzerland recorded a collective turnover of CHF 196.4 billion, a 6.6% increase over the previous month. ETF trading reached an all-time high with a turnover of CHF 7.6 billion (+95.42% versus the prior-month reading and +183.65% compared to October 2007). The number of executed transactions was also at a record high of 5,397,365, or 19% above the September 2008 total. All of the share indices retreated. The blue chip SMI® index closed out October at 6153.2 points, for a month-on-month loss of 7.54%. The broad-based SPI® ended the month 9.33% lower at 5,044.9.
