Because November was such an active month, the wheat futures contract could set another annual volume record. To break the current annual record set just last year, the KCBT needs to trade 177,452 contracts in December. If a new record is achieved, this would be the eighth year in a row. Last December 143,418 contracts were traded. Trading volume in Kansas City Board of Trade wheat options has already set a new annual record, the fifth year in a row that this has occurred. At the conclusion of last Friday's trade, year-to-date volume in KCBT wheat options totalled 229,143 contracts, surpassing the previous annual record of 218,052 contracts established in 2000. To set a new exchange record, the KCBT needs to trade a total of 168,299 contracts in December. Last December, the exchange traded 155,887 contracts. If a new record is set, this would be the third year in a row.
