KCBT Tops All Previous Volume Records - Kansas City Board Of Trade Volume Tops 500,000 In Single Month For First Time

The Kansas City Board of Trade set several new volume records in February, which was the largest month ever in the history of the exchange. A total of 547,690 contracts were traded, the first time ever that the KCBT traded more than 500,000 contracts in a calendar month. The previous monthly trading volume record was set in November of last year at 472,244 contracts and was exceeded by 16 percent.

Hard red winter wheat futures volume was also the largest ever in the history of the exchange and was very near 500,000 contracts at 492,978 contracts. The previous record of 441,194 contracts was set last November and was exceeded by 11.7 percent.

Hard red winter wheat options volume set a new volume record for the month of February, with 53,026 contracts trading. This exceeds the previous record of 29,228 contracts for the month of February set in 2003 by 81.4 percent.

Value Line® futures trading volume continues to increase, with volume traded in February 24 times that of February 2005. Volume increased 46 percent over the previous month.

Open interest continues to swell in all of the contracts compared to last year. Wheat futures open interest more than doubled, wheat options is higher by 86.8 percent and Value Line open interest is up by 515 percent.

The Kansas City Board of Trade, chartered in 1876, is the world's largest futures market for hard red winter wheat.
