KCBT Sets New October Volume Records - Wheat Futures And Exchange Sets New Records For Month Of October

During the month of October, the Kansas City Board of Trade set new October monthly volume records for the wheat futures contract and for the exchange as a whole.

Hard red winter wheat futures volume totaled 421,499 contracts, topping the previous October monthly volume record of 313,491 contracts set just last year by 34.5 percent. Total exchange volume of 465,752 contracts exceeded the previous October volume record of 342,315, also set just last year, by 36.1 percent.

Annual wheat futures trading volume through the end of October was 4,178,611 contracts, exceeding 2005 year-to-date volume of 2,998,013 contracts by 39.4 percent. Wheat futures annual volume thus far has already exceeded last year’s total record volume of 3,682,919 contracts with two months remaining.

Total exchange annual volume through October was at 4,662,338 contracts, an increase of 45.1 percent compared to 2005 year to date. Total exchange annual volume thus far has already exceeded last year’s total record volume of 3,953,536 contracts with two months remaining.

Wheat options volume posted a gain of 56.4 percent compared to last October and an increase of 16.2 percent compared to last month.

The Kansas City Board of Trade, founded in 1856, is the world's largest futures market for hard red winter wheat. This year, the exchange is celebrating its 150-year anniversary.
