Wheat futures volume paved the way for the total increase, as a new November record also was set in that contract. Wheat futures volume totaled 308,146 contracts, breaking the previous November record of 263,151 contracts that was set in 2002 by 17.1 percent.
In addition to these gains over last year, wheat futures, wheat options and the exchange as a whole outperformed October 2003 volume. Wheat futures volume increased 28.2 percent, wheat options increased 6.1 percent and total exchange volume increased by 24.9 percent.
The Kansas City Board of Trade, chartered in 1876, is the world's largest futures market for hard red winter wheat.
