A new July volume record was set in the wheat options contract as 22,862 contracts were traded, compared to the previous July record of 20,133 contracts, set last year. Wheat options open interest continued to gain ground in July, increasing 33.5 percent from the previous month and 9.5 percent when compared to last July.
Wheat futures open interest posted a gain of 4.1 percent when compared to last July and 2.4 percent when compared to June 2001.
Value Line® open interest increased 41.8 percent when compared to July 2000 and 18.9 percent when compared to June 2001.
ISDEX® futures open interest climbed 17.8 percent in the past month.
Total exchange year-to-date volume for 2001 is 6.4 percent ahead of the figure at this point in 2000, with 1,663,899 contracts traded compared to 1,564,443 contracts last year. Wheat futures volume is 3.1 percent higher than it was last year through July, with wheat options posting an increase of 47.3 percent and Value Line® futures ahead by 35.6 percent.
