Open interest in the Kansas City Board of Trade wheat futures contract climbed 9.9 percent at the conclusion of May, standing at 82,738 contracts compared to 75,265 contracts at the end of April. Wheat options open interest increased during the same period to 20,037 contracts compared to 15,112 contracts at the end of April.
Wheat options volume posted gains when compared to last month. A total of 12,839 contracts were traded, an increase of 36.8 percent compared to April 2009 volume of 9,382 contracts.
Kansas City Board of Trade trading volume for the month of May amounted to 242,335 contracts with wheat futures trading volume at 229,496 contracts.
