Wheat options volume was a large portion of the increase, nearly doubling the volume traded in December and posting a 48.8 percent increase over January 2001. Wheat futures volume was 56 percent higher than in December 2001.
Open interest in wheat options at the end of January was 37.5 percent higher than at the end of December and 20.3 percent higher than in January 2001. Wheat futures open interest posted a 3.7 percent increase when compared to last month.
The Value Line contract also has been experiencing increasing volume. Volume in January was 18.2 percent more than in January 2001 and 9.1 percent higher than last month. Open interest at the end of January was 18.8 percent more than in January 2001 and 17.3 percent more than last month.
