KCBT April Volume 65 Percent Higher Than March - April Also Brings New Membership Sales Record

Kansas City--May 1, 2007--Kansas City Board of Trade volume traded during the month of April was 65.1 percent higher than March 2007 volume. This increase was fueled by the hard red winter wheat contract, which posted an increase of 63.2 percent more than that traded in March.

The hard red winter wheat options contract also posted significant gains, with volume 87.8 percent higher than March volume. Wheat options open interest grew in the past month, by 3.3 percent. Wheat options open interest also posted gains compared to a year ago, by 43.2 percent.

A new membership sales record was set in April with a sale at $465,000 on April 3. This tops the previous record sale price of $450,000 set on March 2, 2007. Currently, the highest bid is $440,000 and the lowest offer is $550,000.

The Kansas City Board of Trade, founded in 1856, is the world's largest futures market for hard red winter wheat.
