KCBT Approves "Side-By-Side" Trading - KCBT Directors Vote To Extend Electronic Trading Hours

Date 26/04/2006

The Kansas City Board of Trade Board of Directors voted yesterday to extend the electronic trading hours of the hard red winter wheat futures contract.

A second daily electronic trading session will be added to mirror the open outcry trading hours of 9:30 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. Monday through Friday. This new daytime electronic session is in addition to the current after-hours trading session from 6:32 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. Sunday through Friday.

KCBT President & Chief Executive Officer Jeff Borchardt said, “The extension of electronic access to our wheat futures contract during regular market hours (side-by-side trading) will bring a new set of users to the market not previously represented and complement our highly liquid and efficient open outcry market. The two access venues, coupled with the ability to trade between them, will provide new opportunities that should continue the record-setting growth of our wheat futures contract, the world benchmark pricing mechanism for bread wheat.”

Side-by-side trading in wheat futures will begin on August 1, 2006. KCBT wheat futures contracts represent 5,000 bushels of wheat. Electronically traded wheat futures contracts are fully fungible with open outcry contracts.
