Kathleen Sebelius became the 44th governor of Kansas in 2002. Her current term expires in 2007. Governor Sebelius served in the Kansas House of Representatives from 1987 through 1994. She was elected to her first of two four-year terms as insurance commissioner in 1994.
Governor Sebelius is the first daughter of a governor to be elected governor. Her father, John Gilligan, was elected as governor of Ohio in 1970.
