Kansas City Board Of Trade Volume Second Largest For Month Of March

March trading volume at the Kansas City Board of Trade was the second largest ever for the calendar month of March for both the exchange and the hard red winter wheat futures contract.

The March tally for the entire exchange amounted to 249,603 contracts, coming in at second place behind last year’s record of 278,906 contracts but handily beating the previous second place total of 217,371 contracts set in 1999.

Trading in the wheat futures contract also placed second for the month of March with 233,927 contracts traded, off of last year’s record of 253,158 contracts but almost doubling the previous second place tally of 126,283 set in 2003.

Year-to-date volume for the wheat futures contract is running 10.6 percent ahead of last year’s figure at this time. Total exchange volume is running 5.7 percent ahead of last year at this time.
