Total exchange monthly volume set a new all-time record of 472,244 contracts, breaking the previous record of 454,947 contracts set just this last August. Year-to-date exchange volume is running ahead of last year at this time by 29.2 percent and has already set a new annual volume record. Current volume of 3,685,670 contracts exceeds the previous record of 3,326,836 contracts set in 2002 by 10.8 percent.
Wheat futures trading volume in November was larger than any other previous month. A total of 441,194 contracts were traded, breaking the previous record of 430,409 contracts set this past August. Annual volume at the conclusion of yesterday’s trade was at an all-time high of 3,439,207 contracts, topping the previous annual volume record set in 2002 by 19.3 percent.
Four successive open interest records were set for the hard red winter wheat futures contract this month, topping out at 134,039 contracts on November 8. At the end of October, the record was at 125,273 contracts.
Value Line® futures volume continued to show large increases, with volume traded during November thirty-one times that of a year ago and nearly four times more than in October.
