Wheat futures volume traded in January amounted to 182,523 contracts, exceeding last January's volume by 9.2 percent and coming very near the all-time January record of 193,396 contracts set in 1996.
Wheat options volume traded during the month of January tallied 36,357 contracts, setting a new monthly record for January. The previous record of 28,324 contracts was set in January 2002.
Total exchange volume for January was at healthy levels, exceeding last January's total by 11.3 percent and exceeding last month's volume by 5.8 percent.
The Kansas City Board of Trade, chartered in 1876, is the world's largest futures market for hard red winter wheat.
